This hotel is located directly opposite the entrance to Engelberg s little railway station. Obviously once a very grand building, the hotel is now showing its age rather. The building is, like many of the hotels in Engelberg, in traditional Swiss/British style, with ornate plasterwork and large sash windows. This hotel was obviously once of a very high quality and has been let go to seed a little over the years. Nonetheless its first class location and elegant charm go a long way, and the property comes highly recommended for groups and individual travellers on a budget who value character and style.

The rooms vary considerably in size from small to large. The also vary somewhat in condition, some being really quite old fashioned, whilst other have more modern furniture and have recently been decorated. Likewise the bathrooms are from fair to good rooms condition. All rooms benefit from the facilities and comforts one would expect of a simple 03 star however.

The lobby is large and imposing with elegant pillars and decorative coving
to the ceiling, though, like the exterior of the hotel, it could do with
some renovation. There is plentiful seating and a pool table.

The hotel restaurant is just off the lobby. It is in slightly more rustic
style than the lobby with solid old furniture. Huge windows give the room
a lovely airy feel.
