Brig is in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Brig is located close to the Swiss-Italian borders. Brig is popular among winter sport athletes, because it is surrounded by many Alp summits. The town lies close to River Rhone . The location of Brig is very ideal: southeast through the Simplon train tunnel into Italy; southwest to Zermatt at the foot of the Matterhorn; west to Lake Geneva; north through the Lötschbergtunnel towards Bern; and northeast to the high Alpine passes. Brig is also a perfect starting point for an excursion to Zermatt and Saas-fee.
There are over 150 km of marked hiking trails on the Simplon and Lötschberg and in the Aletsch region. Cycle and mountain bike routes also abound. In winter, some small skiing areas near Brig.
The Stockalper Palace in Brig is one of the most important baroque palaces in Switzerland, it was built by the merchant prince Kaspar Jodok von Stockalper, who first made a mint controlling the trade in silk over the Simplon Pass to Lyon.
The old town of Brig is the historical center of Brig, there are artistocratic houses, a pilgrimage church, Sebastians Chapel.
Brig baths is one of the biggest open-air thermal spa centers in Switzerland, away from Brig 6 kilometers.
