Kandersteg is in the canton of Berne in Switzerland, it is located in the Bernese Oberland at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level at the foot of the Lotschen Pass, lies along the valley of the river Kander, west of Jungfrau massif. Kandersteg is a peaceful holiday resort in Switzerland, in summer it is hiker’s paradise, as well as a ski resort in winter.

Kandersteg has good transport links at the northern entrance to the Lotschberg Tunnel. Regional Express trains travel every hour on the Loetschberg-line, in both directions, between Spiez/Bern and Brig. Buses run between Reichenbach, Frutigen, Kandergrund, Blausee, Adelboden and Kandersteg. There’s a village bus in Kandersteg. The
Gastere valley can be reached by bus during summer. The yellow Post Buses with their threetone horns go up and down the Lötschen valley, connecting with the trains. They stop
in Ferden, Kippel, Wiler, Blatten and in summer go as far as the Fafleralp. In the other direction they go to Steg and Gampel with connections to Visp or Leuk. Travelers who handle the Valais Adventure card or the Bernese Oberland Regional Pass can get cheap price for train and mountain railway tickets.
Kandersteg is a paradise for nature and hiking lovers, the most famous routes lead cross the Gemmi Pass straight to Leukerbad in the Valais, to Lake Oeschinen or through the wildly romantic Gastern Valley and finally over the 2690-metre-high, historically important Lötschen Pass to the Lötschen Valley.
