Locarno is in the canton of Ticino, Switzerland. It located on the northern tip of the Lake Maggiore, suited on the delta of the river Maggia. Locarno is at the foot of the Alps, near with Ascona. There are 2300 hours of sunshine every year in Locarno.
It is possible to reach Locarno by plane, it is accessible from every international airport worldwide, direct flights from the international cities to Lugano-Agno airport. Locarno also can easily be reached by car, in summer and winter by the excellent highway A2 Basel Chiasso, on the motorway trough the northern Italian lake district, from Milan to the Swiss border at Chiasso-Brogeda and further following the motorway A2. From northern Europe and the northern and western parts of Switzerland , Locarno can be reached by the international railway line Basel-Milano, with the direct trains Intercity and Cisalpino.
The film festival of Locarno has long history more than 60 years, it is one of the most important cinema occasions in the world. The festival lasted about 11 days, Locarno became a meeting point for professionals, specialists and enthusiasts. Thousands of film fans enjoy the magnificent setting of the Piazza Grande in August every year.
Locarno has a number of interesting tourist attractions . Pilgrimage church of Madonna del Sasso offers the beautiful view over the town and mountain. Castello Visconteo located on the edge of the old town, it was built in 12th century , as the residence of a Captain Orelli. Lago Maggiore provides swimming, water sports and excursions around the lake.
