Lugano is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Switzerland. The exclusive museums, the beautiful mountains and lakes, Italianate Lombardy style building invite tourists to visit Lugano.
The Wilhelm Schmid Museum is dedicated to the work of the painter Wilhelm Schmid who is an exponent of the German New Objectivity of the 20s. The museum is located in the village Bre of Lugano. The building of Lugano was restored in 1982.
The Art Museum was built in 18th century, it is an ideal example of the typical nineteenth century lake-side architecture. The museum is dedicated to the art and artists of the 20th and 21st century.
Villa Ciani was built between 1840 and 1843, is one of the most enchanting corners of the gulf in Lugano, it is surrounded by the city park and represents. The Villa is famous for having become a part of the glorious history of political emigration during the Italian Risorgimento. Villa Ciani open only for temporary exhibits.
Swissminiatur is an open-air museum, all the 1:25 scale models are inserted in a 14’000 m2 park, decorated by 15’000 flower varieties and more than 1500 trees. Tourists can visit the most important Swiss buildings and means of transportation.
A very popular destination in Lugano is Lake Lugano. The lake is 48.7 square kilometers (18.8 sq mi) in size, 63% of which is in Switzerland and 37% in Italy. It has an average width of roughly 1 km (0.62 mi) and is nearly 3 km (1.86 mi) at its widest.
Shopping
Tourists can find all kinds of shops and department stores in Lugano. Shops are usually open from 8 a.m. or 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Shops close at 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Via Nassa is one of Lugano’s historical streets, is also a popular shopping area. The Lugano market offers the typical food products, it take place in the center of the city. Flowers, fruit, vegetables, handicraft are also offered here. Centro Lugano Sud is one of the most frequented shopping destinations in Lugano, visitors from northern Switzerland and northern Italy.
