Montreux is a municipality in the district of Vevey in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, nestles in a sheltered Lake Geneva bay, at the foot of the Alps. Because of the exceptionally mild climate Montreux is called the capital of the Vaud Riviera. Plants associated with the Mediterranean, such as pines, cypresses and palm trees grow here. Montreux is the home of Mountain Studios, the recording studio used by several artists.

Tourist attractions

 Chateau de Chillon: it is one of the most beautiful attractions in Switzerland. It built on the shores of Lake Geneva, is combination of castle and fortress. It provides a marvelous view of the entire Lake of Geneva There are magnificient collections of antique furniture. The prison in which Bonivard was held in chains for four years and which provided Lord Byron with the inspiration for his famous poem "The prisoners of Chillon" in 1816.

 Museum of Montreux: this is a a group of 17th century buildings, is located in the central area of the old town. The museum records the history of Montreux, as well as local artefacts, tourism, etc.

The house Visinand: is located at the heart of the old town, built in 1592. This building is listed as a historical monument,  and it contains the cultural centre of Montreux.

Theatre Montreux-Riviera: located in the old town of Montreux. Annie Girardot, Anne Roumanoff, Bernadette Lafont, Michel Galabru, Roland Giraud, George Wilson, Aldo Maccione or Jean-Luc Moreau…had been come here for their new shows. The theatre decorated with red velvet, offers an intimate atmosphere for the shows.

 

Events

 The Montreux Jazz Festival is founded by Claude Nobs in 1967, it is an unmissable event for music fans from Switzerland and all over the world. It held in early July. Its stages have been graced by all of music’s greats, from Miles Davis to Ray Charles and from David Bowie to Massive Attack.

Festival de Musique Classique Montreux-Vevey: since 1945, it held in September every year. It is one of Europe’s most famous classical music festivals
