Schaffhausen is the capital city of  the canton of Valais, Switzerland. It located in the northernmost corner of Switzerland, lies on the Upper Rhine between the Black Forest and Lake Constance, it is a  famous holiday resort in Switzerland, and also the home of the Rhine Falls which is the largest waterfall in Europe. The ideal location of Schaffhausen made it became a popular holiday resort. Schaffhausen is known for the fresh fruity wine of Schaffhausen Blauburgunderland.

Tourist attractions

The Old Town of Schaffhausen is considered one of the prettiest in Switzerland, it is traffic-free. The old town is crammed full of well-preserved architecture. Many of the fine guildhouses and merchant’s houses date from Gothic and Baroque times.

The Rhine Falls is the largest falls in Europe, it is a width of 150 meters and a height of 23 meters, an average of 700000 litres of water cascade over the rocks every second. The best time to visit the falls is July, because the water levels of the falls are highest.

The Randen mountain is a popular attraction in Schaffhausen, it offers the best things for travelers, such as relaxing hikes on good trails, challenging biking tours, etc.

Former Benedictine abbey of Allerheiligen is the monastery church, which dating from 11th century ,it is an important Romanesque historic building, there are a herb garden and museum about the town’s history and industry in the church.

Klettgau is the main wine and corn area of Schaffhausen, travelers can enjoy hiking through beautiful countryside, taste delicious grapes and fine wines.

Fass-Beiz Gallery offers a forum for artists from various arts, it is not only regional artists from in and around Schaffusen.

Transportation

Schaffhausen is an ideal starting point to other famous countries. It is 30 minutes to Zurich airport by car, the German motorway network is a mere 10 minutes away and Stuttgart is just 90 minutes away.

Schaffhausen is easily reached by rail. It is a stop of the international important Stuttgart-Schaffhausen- Zurich- Milan route. Schaffhausen is well connected to both the German and the Swiss Autobahn networks. Schaffhausen also has a bus network of 6 lines, linking it with nearby places such as Herblingen and Neuhausen am Rheinfall.

Activities

Biking: the Rhine route is 420 kilometers which start from Andermatt via Schaffhausen to Basel, ride along diverse trails. Klettgau route is along flat terrain in valley and past farming and winegrowing areas.

Hiking: Schaffhausen is a paradise for hiker, enjoy the beautiful views of Schaffhausen on foot, from Santis till Jungfrau on a 40 meters high tower in Hagen, the highest point of Schaffhausen.

Boat trips: enjoy one of the most scenic stretches of water in Europe onboard a proud Rhine boat to Stein am Rhein or even to Lake Constance.

Canoe trips: dive into the river Rhine and Thur rivers with unsinkable Canadiers.

Schaffhausen Wine

Schaffhausen Blauburgunderland is the kingdom of the Point Noir grape, queen of all the red wines. The wine producers have named the region Schaffhausen Blauburgunderland after this grape. Schaffhausen Wine Museum show travelers how the monks spread the art of winegrowing, explain how a barrel was mande and which tools were used, see how the young wine is stored and tended in barrels.
