Stein am Rhein is in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland, its area surface comes to 575 hectares (without the lake) and it lies 413 meters above sea level, on either side of the Rhine River, at the foot of the Klingen.
Stein am Rhein has a well-preserved medieval centre, retaining the ancient street plan. The site of the city wall, and the city gates are preserved, though the former city wall now consists of houses. Most of the mediaeval buildings are painted with beautiful frescoes and be worth seeing for travelers.
